Chinese Dian Hong red tea is a relatively young variety, discovered in the first half of the last century. Dian Hong was created to compete with Indian and Ceylon teas on the foreign market, but quickly became popular worldwide. Not the least of which was the fact that the raw material for dianhong is harvested from large-leaf tea trees. After picking, the tea leaves undergo traditional black tea processing including withering, twisting, oxidizing and roasting. Controlling oxidation is key to achieving the desired flavor and aroma. Dian Hong is a strong black tea, with an expressive aroma, therefore ideal for classic European tea drinking.
The flavor of this tea is rich and multi-layered. Its base is often sweetness, complemented by notes of caramel, honey and chocolate. The tea may have a subtle bitterness that gives balance and depth to its flavor.
Ingredients: black tea.
